If you export a letter to ascii the <signature> field is placed on top
of the text so that it looks like this:
<My Name>
<My Street>
<My Town>
<Send To Name>
<Send To Street>
<Send To Town>
<Your signature>
<Dear ...>
<Text of Your Letter. To create a real letter, just
replace erase all the text in <> (including the "<>"
characters) with the desired text.>
<Yours sincerely,>

I can confirm the bug, I am not seeing a general solution to this kind of
problem other that exporting to latex, from there export to postscript and
using a another converter, say ps2ascii convert the document to ascii.
The internal export is just a poor man attempt to convert the document in the
absence of external converters.

Plain text export is not designed for this level of precision.
José confirmed this.
