Hi,
Let's say I've just installed LyX. There's no ~/.lyx. Now I run:
$ lyx -e latex mydoc.lyx
LyXTextClassList::Read: unable to find textclass file `'. Exiting.
The problem here is that configure.py is not run automatically if I start LyX in
batch mode (instead of interactive).

I guess you do not see it because you have an old textclass.lst in your build tree.
