Lyx crashes after new document - document properties

The sequence

File->New
Document -> Settings...

crashes Lyx on Vista.

The previous versions worked fine in the identical environment.

The information window gives:

lyx: Disabling LyX socket.

lyx: SIGSEGV signal caught

in Help->Introduction and send us a bug report, if necessary. Thanks !

cannot reproduce on Linux. But we have a second report for Windows.

(What windows installer did you use, the standard one or the alternative one?)

I used the standard installer and installed 1.5.5. over the previous
version 1.5.4. Installing 1.5.5. over this again removed the problem.

I did this twice, with identical results, but on the same computer. I
shall try install and run 1.5.5. in administrator mode if I have time
over the weekend.

I just tried: Installing 1.5.5 over 1.5.4 and running either
lyxlyuncher.exe or lyx in administrator mode gives the crash result.
Installing 1.5.4 over 1.5.5 removes the problem.

It worked fine on my XP computer in the office. I shall try to-night to
uninstall and then install afresh in Vista at home. Maybe it will work.
I shall let you know. (I prefer the official version because it worked
fine with installing without uninstalling first. Maybe this has changed.)

As to be expected, the bug persists even after uninstalling Lyx and
reinstalling Lyx 1.5.5.

The bug disappears by installing LyX 1.5.4. over Lyx 1.5.5.

The bug is not there with Lyx 1.5.5 alternate installer.
(but I destroyed my local configuration--I don't like that, even if this
is due to ma own sloppiness.)

The bug is not there with Lyx 1.6.alpha 2 (alternate)

Uninstalling everything and re-installing 1.5.5 brought in the bug again.

So it is specific to Vista in combination with the standard installer
version 1.5.5.-1.

So it is specific to Vista in combination with the standard installer version
1.5.5.-1.

Confirmed then. I guess the problem is #4846.
(I compiled LyX 1.5.5 still using Qt 4.3 for my installer as brand new Qt
versions often make problems and there is no need to use them right now.)

this is an installer issue. Still LyX should not crash.

No, #4846 is about 1.6 and WMF handling; different issue.

I installed Lyx 1.5.5-1 afresh. The LyX welcome document was loaded. I
checked for the bug. It was not there!

I closed Lyx 1.5.5-1 and opened it again. This time, no document was
loaded. I checked for the bug. It was there again!

I copied the new files into the bin directory and started LyX with the
LyX launcher. The bug is gone! Congratulations!

So it seems to be a bug in the new QT 4.4.
Joost, I explicitely asked you not to use the brand new Qt 4.4 for LyX 1.5.5 as these cases appeared
in the past for other Qt releases but you didn't reply ;-).
