#4935 closed enhancement (fixed)

scroll down until the last line of document appears at the top of the screen

Description (last modified by Juergen Spitzmueller)

When I work with Lyx documents, I would like to be able to scroll until the
screen is clear. I mean, one full screen of "bottom area" should be visible if
user prefers so. If the document is large enough, you can input only at the
bottom of screen. I want to be able to see a clear white screen. Currently, I
do this by adding a large vertical space at the end of the document, but this
is somewhat fragile: sometimes I press backspace or delete, or downarrow keys
accidentally. It would be nice if the scrolling code could be adapted to
scroll down until the last line of the document is invisible (or very top line
of the screen).

this is not necessarily a bug (I think it is, but I suppose many would
oppose), thus I add it as an enhancement request: as a note to anybody
interested.

Nusret

I personally don't think this is a bug and I don't really think this would be an
enhancement; but that's personal taste :-)
Confirming anyway, but don't expect me to work on that before 1.6...

Note that I am not referring to ability to click on let's say 5 cm. below the
last line and being able to start typing at that position. This contradicts
Latex philosophy. But you should understand that my documents usually have *a
lot* more complicated formulas than words (at least that's the part I use Lyx
for: I then export to Latex and continue from there. I really don't use Lyx
for that, as I have to polish it in latex anyway). At times a crowded string
can be *very* distracting. Especially when I want to focus on what's coming,
rather than what was done.

Besides, it does not hurt :).

This is just to make my case: of course, Abdelrazak, you are entitled to your
opinion. But I hope I'll convince you, as you are a reasonable man :). I agree
it is not urgent though, as I have a ,albeit fragile, a workaround as i
already mentioned above.

Nusret

Oops, when I typed "At times a crowded string
can be *very* distracting", I meant a "crowded SCREEN" :).
