#5675 closed defect (wontfix)

with glipper on, cursor wont be able to mark text

Reported by: karlrt@… Owned by: poenitz
Priority: high Milestone:
Component: cursor Version: 1.6.1
Severity: normal Keywords:

Description

i have the 1.6.1 backport for ubuntu hardy, i386, just tried it out, and it
produces (with or without compiz) weard behaviour when
trying to mark things with the mouse:

Reproduce:
Install and runn glipper with the option "middle mouse-button" on too.

Then in lyx, you just cant mark things: While holding mousebutton and moving
the mouse, it will mark and change the color(sometimes not even this is done),
but when releasing the mousebutton, the marking is just gone. Then, you have
nothing good to copy and paste. The glipper history shows f.e. if you mark "lyx
is great" smth. like

l
ly
lyx
lyx
lyx i
[...]
lyx is grea
t

so you dont get anything useable even in the glipper history!

Works like charm when the described glipper option is not on, or glipper as a
whole is not installed. I only know that its glipper because of a hint in bug
3580.

I am sorry but i have to insist: This bug has nothing to do with #5664 where
just a user didnt know how to center figures!

please re-read carefully, and if you still dont understand ask me because i
think there was a lot of missunderstanding! Try to reproduce it if you have
gnome install glipper and do the thing! And dont tell me its a problem of
glipper because all other aplications work fine, you can mark things, just lyx
doesnot!

You reported the bug twice, and I attempted to mark on of the two reports as
duplicate. By mistake, I entered 5664 instead of 5674.

i'm sorry for reporting this bug twice, thanks for cleaning my mess up.

I know this is off topic, but it seems that anytime i enter smth. in your
bugzilla, my connection breaks down and i have to reset the router. (Happend
allready twice, i had to rewrite this message) lets see if this time it works :)

Please also report this bug to the glipper people. I tend to rate this a glipper
bug.

reported to the glipper project: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?

i forgot to mention that if i want to mark things in lyx with the
keyboadshortcuts, everything works like expected. Just with the mouse
(holdleftbutton...) its buggy. Well it could be a glipper problem, but there
must be something different to the behaviour of marking things in lyx then in
all other programs i used. perhaps its something buggy in glipper AND in lyx
that makes this weard behaviour?

Let's wait what the glipper people have to say about it.
FWIW, klipper has a similar function, and that one works without problems.

A similar problem has been reported for the XFCE tool Clipman.

well, i think waiting for a glipper-reply is senseless as there was no
codechange since 2007 and even the founder said the project is dead :( but not
so with clipman perhaps?

Thanks to Mike Massonnet, the interaction between LyX and XFCE Clipman
has been fixed in the latest version.
xfce4-clipman-plugin-0.9.0.tar.bz2 can be downloaded from:

Since glipper seems to be dead and Clipman fixed the problem, let's close this.
