math fonts don't display on screen properly in RH8.0

Description
Many math symbols (\int, \sum) display on the screen as boxes or diamonds.
operating system RedHat 8.0
lyx version: 1.3pre3 (compiled by me for QT), 1.3 release rpm for QT
there is an error reported about being unable to add /usr/share/lyx/xfonts to
the fontpath
I have verified that xset will not add /usr/share/lyx/xfonts to the fontpath -
this is also true with 1.2.3, but perhaps the xforms version doesn't use the xfonts?

Not a bug. You need to install latex-ttf-fonts RPM/tarball from
ftp.lyx.org in the contrib directory.
